Our way of working
Our approach
Ninki Nanka Encounters (NNE) Foundation aims to bring people together to pioneer and showcase a Ninki Nanka responsible approach to community-centric trail development in (West) Africa, starting along The River Gambia. We are developing an alternative to the inequitable and unsustainable business-as-usual package tourism and outdated modes of tourism governance and an alternative to traditional community-based tourism (CBT) delivery developing tourism along The River Gambia for the benefit of local communities and their environment.
We are introducing new ways of working to develop the Ninki Nanka Trail such as new practices, partnerships, processes for product development, good governance, environmental management and community empowerment to maximise local benefit and improve visitor experience.
NNE Theory of Change
Our Theory of Change shows what we think the problems are, our intervention pathways, the specific activities we are doing to get there, and what outcomes we are working to achieve. See a summary of our Theory of Change below, or you can get the full version here.
You will see getting things done is organised around our 4 Ninki Nanka dragon-themed intervention pathways:
Product Development: Dragon Tales & Trails
Good Governance: The Ninki Nanka Way
Environmental Management: Green Scales
Community Empowerment: Dragon Empowere
NNE Climate Action plan
We also have our NNE Climate Action Plan which captures in more detail our plans for implementing our Green Scales Environmental Pathway in line with the Glasgow Declaration on Climate Change which NNE has signed.
